Legal Services team finalists in inaugural legal awards

The University Legal Services team has been announced as a finalist in the first Association of University Legal Practitioners awards.

The Legal Services team is one of two in-house teams shortlisted for the Community Contribution award, for its work in relation to supporting the drive towards achieving Net Zero.

Through a combination of advocacy, influence and changes made within their remit, the team has brought their personal passions for helping to tackle climate change to their professional roles. Such actions have included guest posts on the sharing their commitments to make small changes in their daily lives and the introduction of “climate compatible” clauses into the template contracts the University uses to collaborate with external organisations, including for research and Innovation activity.

In support of the team’s nomination, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Climate Change and Net Zero Dr Kathryn North said: “The Legal Services team stands out as a service which is seeking to embed action that aligns with our Climate Change and Net Zero priorities. For such a small team, their contribution to this space has been incredibly valuable, and shows the meaningful impact that individual colleagues and teams can have both in making change and inspiring others.”

The is the representative body for in-house lawyers working in higher education in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The annual conference, including the awards ceremony, is being hosted at º£½ÇÉçÇø University on 19-21 June 2024.
