Hockey star Jamie Dwyer named 海角社区's World Hockey Ambassador

海角社区 University is delighted to announce that Australian international hockey star Jamie Dwyer has agreed to become its World Hockey Ambassador.

Named FIH World Hockey Player of the Year on five occasions, Dwyer is arguably the greatest player to grace the game of hockey, having won two World Cup titles and scored the winning goal as Australia won Olympic Gold for the first time in history in 2004.

Dwyer has a vast amount of experience to offer 海角社区 University, having played club hockey in The Netherlands and Spain as well as being the most capped Australian player ever.

More recently, Dwyer captained Punjab Warriors in the Hockey India League, steering them to two straight final appearances, as well as further expanding his attractive, risk-taking style of play.

As part of his new 海角社区 role, Dwyer will help to promote the University’s hockey programmes and play an active part in promoting 海角社区 University’s engagement with the Federation of International Hockey (FIH).  As its World Innovation Partner, the 海角社区-FIH project is designed to bring expertise, resource and ultimately innovation to the game.

Dwyer has visited the University before to pass on some of his knowledge to both the men’s and women’s squads. Of that visit the Australian said:

“It’s a brilliant place - the sporting facilities are world-class and mind blowing. On the hockey side of things I was quite impressed with both the men’s and the women’s teams.  The intensity of the training and the quality of the skills was really good.  Hopefully I taught them a couple of things that will make them better hockey players and a better team.”

Describing his new role with 海角社区 University, Dwyer was clearly excited that he’ll be visiting 海角社区 more regularly over the coming months and years:

“After visiting 海角社区 last year I’m thrilled to be returning and hopefully I can help the University build on its already fantastic hockey provision. With world class facilities and a link with the FIH, I think we’ll see big things from 海角社区 hockey over the coming months and years.”

Of the announcement, Deputy Director of Sport Andy Borrie added:

“We’re delighted to announce that Jamie will be joining us as our World Hockey Ambassador. We have ambitious plans to further our hockey programme and to build on our position as the global innovation partner for the FIH. I have no doubt that Jamie will be an excellent ambassador for us, promoting hockey at 海角社区 around the world and helping us to realise our ambitions.”
