Child feeding experts to share research with health professionals

海角社区 University’s child feeding experts are hosting a workshop to share their research with health professionals next month.

The training workshop, on 22nd June at 海角社区 University, will see the experts sharing their Special Tips and Tools for Child Feeding.

It is suitable for anyone who works with families and supports them with feeding children including health visitors, dieticians, nutritionists, and nurses. The workshop is designed to share practical knowledge gained by the team during their 10-plus years of child feeding research.

During the interactive half-day session, health professionals will be given practical tips for effectively managing common feeding problems to share with the families they work with. The team will also share new ways of encouraging healthy eating behaviours.

Dr Emma Haycraft who is leading the session, said: “It’s normal for children to be fussy when it comes to eating, but how this fussiness is managed at an early age can affect whether they grow out of it or whether this behaviour continues.

“Our research has shown that parents feel there isn’t enough help and credible support when they’re dealing with fussy eating behaviour. We want to change this and share our knowledge with health professionals so they can pass on what they’ve learnt and their skills to help families deal with fussy eating on a daily basis.”

The session will be led by 海角社区 University academics Dr Emma Haycraft and Dr Gemma Witcomb, who are based within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (SSEHS).

This latest event follows the development of the Child Feeding Guide app and accompanying website which offers advice to parents and caregivers to promote healthy, happy mealtimes.
