Description of the works
Tree works various locations, buildings nearest works as listed below.
- Martin Hall – pollarding Salix alba to reduce leaf deposition on Martin Hall roof. Access will be restricted along the south side of the building and Butler Court Nature Reserve area.
- EHB Sports-turf – pollarding Populus alba to reduce likelihood of trunk failure due to Ganoderma applanatum/austral white rot. Access along path will be restricted during operations.
- Portakabin (Met Comp) – fell to hedge height Fraxinus excelsior. Tree has poor vigour due to Chalara infection and leans into adjacent private gardens. For safety reasons the tree is being taken down. Area will be restricted during operations.
- Holywell Rugby Pitch 1 – Monolith Robinia pseudoacacia. Tree has an undiagnosed fungal disease that is disrupting the vascular system on the east side of the trunk. Due to proximity to private garden and concerns about possible root failure, the tree is being monolithed. Access to area will be restricted during the operations.
- Faraday Common Room – Monolith Fraxinus excelsior. Tree has had long history of Inonotus hispidus on northern leader and this has now extended down to the main trunk. This fungus is known to increase the brittleness of ash wood due to its simultaneous white-rot with later soft-rot phase. As such, trunk failure likelihood has increased to an unacceptable level and the canopy will be removed to reduce windthrow forces on the trunk. Access to area will be restricted during the operations.
- Holywell Rugby Pitch 2 – Fell and remove all material for a Fagus sylvatica and Tilia cordata. The former is growing too close to the boundary line and the tree is a known surface rooter that may in the future cause damage to the neighbouring private property. The Tilia is growing adjacent to the access point for a water meter and may damage this facility if allowed to continue growing. Access to area will be restricted during the operations.
- Edward Herbert – Works to reduce the crown of the Cedrus libani to reduce the tree’s reliance on propping and decrease the risk of catastrophic limb failure due to over extended growth. Access to area will be restricted during the operations.
